Ayako Onizawa entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre in 1993 and became a Kodo member in 1996. She is featured mainly as a dancer, noted for her feminine and delicate style founded in strong fundamentals. In 2005, she studied Okinawan dance as an apprentice under celebrated Okinawan dance master Takako Sato and was awarded the newcomer prize for classical Okinawan dance that same year.
