Mitsuru Ishizuka was brought up in a family of taiko players. In 1999, he entered the Kodo Apprentice Centre and has been a Kodo member and featured taiko performer since 2002. In 2007, he began to take on the role of artistic director where his gentle demeanor, careful observation and precise direction have earned him the deep trust of his colleagues. For the Kodo 30th Anniversary One Earth Tour in 2011, he created a programme which united all the generations of Kodo.
